In the above close up, notice how only the soil is removed and the small roots are still intact.

Radial trenching helps to relive soil compaction.  Before the air knife, this was done using a trencher and one cut all the roots in the trench.  Now we can dig trenches, backfill the trenches with expanded slate, and cover up the roots with soil and mulch all without cutting roots.  This makes a great place to grow new roots.

Trenches can be up to about 18” deep.  We can also use this tool to make vertical holes, expose root crowns, dig for irrigation lines, expose roots for clean root pruning.
